Buell 1125rr. Lucifer’s Hammer. Practice 15th March at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town. Weather was good except for the South Easter, but that is normal for Cape Town at this time of year. However the track conditions were appalling. WPMC has had the track re surfaced at various locations around the track. Turn 1, a 2.5 mtr wide swathe for about 30 meters around the corner on the inside. Exactly where you need maximum confidence in your grip levels as one is rapidly slowing down from around 250 KPH turning in and trail braking into the corner just to be met with virgin, “green” tarmac. What makes it even worse is the drop from the new tar to the old which is no more than an inch or so, however at full lean angle and on the gas it puts the bike very sideways. Not for the faint hearted.
Turn 2 is fine no real issues there. The “kink” has a section of about 20 mtrs x about 1 meter wide approximately 2 mtrs from the outside edge of the track. So you have a choice. Cut the kink and keep inside the repaired section or run wide at the kink and have to cut back to the outside to recover your line going into three. Turn 4 is fine. Turn 5 is just very dirty from having been sand blasted prior to the repair work having been done. I was quite comfortable with 5 however others were not. I guess it comes down to rider style. Next practice session is this afternoon. Wednesday from about 4.30. Official practice is on Friday with racing on Saturday 19th March. Come and support the Buell 1125rr. Lucifer’s Hammer.
